Finance Director

A private equity backed industrial services business requires an experienced Finance Director to provide effective management of the company’s finances and support the Chief Executive, Chief Operating Officer and Divisional Managing Directors in the strategic management of the group. 

Role Description

The key elements of the role are to:

  • Work in partnership with the CEO, COO and Divisional MDs in the strategic management of the company
  • Work with the team as a motivator, facilitator and driver for financial performance with the emphasis on cash in addition to profit
  • Manage the working capital of the Group in a balanced way to reduce debt while maximising sales and margin opportunities
  • Produce budgets and appropriate re-forecasts in the required timescales
  • Lead the Finance team, monitoring and motivating the staff and delegating responsibilities effectively to appropriate individuals
  • Implement rolling cash forecasts to ensure future compliance with covenants
  • Ensure appropriate credit control and treasury policies are in place
  • Maintain good communications and a good working relationship with the banks
  • Meet information deadlines and other commitments within the loan agreement
  • Lead the financial review of potential new investments and contracts
  • Provide a framework for the board and operational team to evaluate impact on the company business plan and the key value drivers of the business
  • Monitor progress and spend on significant capital projects / contracts
  • Maintain good communications and a good working relationship with private equity investors


The candidate should have the following skills and experience:

  • High energy and drive, willing to roll their sleeves up
  • A formally qualified accountant
  • An experienced Finance Director
  • Experience of an industrial business with significant capital assets and projects
  • Experience of a multi-site operation
  • Worked within a portfolio environment, actively involved in more than one division
  • Previous private equity experience or experience managing a leveraged business requiring significant bank interaction
  • A high detail orientation with strong analytical and modeling skills coupled with the ability to focus on the bigger picture 
  • Comfortable  managing an IT function, sound understanding of IT hardware and software
